The powder coating finish involves the application of pigmented powder that adheres to the aluminium surface after heat curing. Powder coatings are suited to harsh environments because of their resistance to acids, alkalis, and oils at normal temperatures. They have excellent weathering properties when properly pre-treated.

Powder coatings are popular with designers because of the literally hundreds of colours they can choose from. The colours come in a wide range of lustres (matt, low sheen, satin, and gloss) and surface effects (textures, ripples, metallic, and hammer finishes).

Since powder coating is not made up of any organic solvents, no VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are released into the atmosphere during application. The method of application also ensures that any excess powder can be reused, resulting in low wastage.

Reputable powder coaters such as Dulux and Interpon make it easy to specify from their stock and custom colours.
